Top 13 Christmas Movie Recommendations

With the holidays right around the corner, I want to give you an amazing movie list. The movies on this list will be great for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This list will range from classics to movies you may never have heard of. I will give you a brief description of the movie and then I’ll give you my review of it.

Last Holiday

This 2006 holiday movie stars Queen Latifah and LL Cool J. This holiday movie is about a terminally ill saleswoman named Georgia Byrd (Queen Latifah) who reflects on the life that she has lived over the years. So, Georgia withdraws her life savings and travels to Europe to live out the rest of her days. Along the way, Georgia meets a world-renowned Chef Didier.

Rate: this Movie is a 10/10 for a holiday movie. This movie is very uplifting and encouraging. This is a family movie. This romantic comedy was a movie that everyone needs to see.

Little Drummer Boy

This 1968 Classic Holiday Movie is a stop motion tv special that many of us grew up watching.

Rate:  6.5/ 10 This movie, many people have said they love and enjoy it. This movie is one for the books. If you haven’t seen this movie, you are tripping. This is a MUST-SEE MOVIE. 

White Christmas

We got another Classic for you. This 1954 movie is about two singers named, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis that join a sister act to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont.  This Classic movie will bring joy to the world for anyone, not in the spirit of Christmas.

Rate: 7/10 This is a Classic. This Classic is exciting and a musical extravaganza. If you like musicals and good plotlines, you will enjoy this movie. If you haven’t seen this movie, you need to SEE this movie. Your family will enjoy it and it will bring lots of Joy to your home.

The Grinch

There are 3 grinch movies but I’m only going to talk about two of them. 2018, The Grinch Movie is about The Grinch and his loyal Dog Max living in solitary inside the cave on Mount Crumpet. His main source of aggravation comes during Christmastime when his neighbors in Whoville. This animated version of grinch is both comical and entertaining.

In 2000, The Grinch movie, starring Jim Carrey. This live-action adaptation of (How the Grinch stole Christmas) is about a reclusive green Grinch who decides to ruin Christmas for the citizens of Whoville. However, the Bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who.

Rate: 10/10 Both movies are legendary. I love them both. They are really family-friendly. If you haven’t seen either of these movies, then you live under a rock. You need to check it out ASAP. One of my favorite holiday movies. I start watching these two in early November. It will help with Christmas joy.

Elf

This comical holiday movie is about a elf named Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidently transported to the North pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. After realizing that he was human, Buddy traveled to New York to meet his real dad (James Caan) who is a cynical businessman. After the DNA proves that Buddy is his son, Walter tries to form a relationship with his son. While Buddy is trying to teach him the importance of Christmas.

Rate: 9/10 Amazing movie. This movie will make you laugh and teach you a lesson at the same time. Great family movie. Honestly, my family and I can watch this movie all year long. You need to check it out now. It is just that good.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

This hilarious 1989 movie embodies the whole holiday vacation with family members. As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold ( Chevy Chase) wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen ( Beverly D’Angelo) and his children as he tries to get everything in line for Christmas.

Rate: 9.5/10 If you have a family, you will get a real laugh at this movie. This movie shows the different family members during the holiday season. It is crazy how the producer and director capture family holidays to a T. This movie will make you laugh and feel bad for them. It is one for that every American household should watch.

Home Alone

This Classic 1990 movie is one of the best holiday movies in history. It is about an 8-year-old bratty boy named, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother makes him sleep in the attic. The next morning the McCallister family leaves for vacation and don’t’ realized the Kevin isn’t in the car, so they go back and get him. Then they are late for their flight, so they rush to the gate leaving little Kevin alone. Kevin thinks he gets on the right plane but gets on a New York flight instead with all the families money.

Rate: 10/10

This is a holiday favorite. Everyone should know this movie. If you don’t Hulu or Netflix will have it and check it out. This great and funny movie is something you need to make sure you watch this year.

Frosty the Snowman

This 1969 American animated Christmas movie is about a snowman that comes to life.

Rate: 9.5/10

I recommend watching this movie if you have small kids or if you just enjoy animated films. It is a great movie to watch during the holidays.

The Santa Clause

This 1994 movie is about a man who inadvertently makes Santa fall off of his roof on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place.

Rate: 8.9/10

This is a Classic Disney movie. It is a good movie. It is very traditional. But different than any other Santa movie I have seen.

Jingle Jangle

Decades after his trusted apprentice bretrayed him, a once-joyful toymaker finds new hope when his kind and curious granddaughter comes back into his life.

Rate: 10/10

On this whole list, this movie would have to be my favorite. It is a musical movie. It is very inspiring and uplifting. It is very family friendly. If you like music and entertainment, this is the holiday movie that you need to see. I can watch this movie 20 times a day for 7 days a week.

This Christmas

At Holiday time, family matriarch Ma’Dere (Loretta Devine) assembles her large brood for their first reunion in 4 years. However, family ties show signs of strain when various secrets come to light.

Rate: 5/10

If you are black, you know this is a staple movie for the holidays. This movie is some people’s favorite holiday movie. Over the years I watched it and I don’t get the hype. It is a okay movie. It isn’t funny nor is entertaining. The good thing about this movie is Loretta Devine. She is an amazing actress.

The Polar Express

This 2004 animated movie is an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.

Rate: 8.5/10

If you went to public school, you know this movie by heart. I used to hate this movie because we used to watch it so much over the years.

A Christmas Carol

This 2009 animate movie is about a miserly Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) that ins it’s all humbug, berating his faithful clerk and cheerful nephew. Scrooge encounters 3 spirits of his late business partner, and the 3 spirits warn him about his present, past, and future,

Rate: 9.3/10

This is a great movie. My one problem with it is that it is so dark. You got to literally turn the brightness up on your tv to watch. I love Jim Carrey and he is a great actor. I love the movie.
